Thank you for your interest in the Military Standards Cadre for Commissioned Corps Officers. You will be contacted with the date, time and location on Fort Detrick to report. You will also receive an additional Email notification if the test is cancelled. We advise you to check by using the Exam Check button on our home page to view the status of your exam. We reserve the right to cancel exams at any time. We only do this in the event that there is bad weather or other unforseen circumstances.
Make sure you have received the confirmation Email about your registration. You must register via our web interface in order for you to become part of the Military Standards Members national database.
We salute your committment to become an elite member of this organization. Now, please take time to review the instructions below to insure that your exam is a successful one. It is probably a good idea to print out these instructions for future reference. Things will move fairly quickly an orderly, so please familiarize yourself with our program. Also, please remember that these exams are voluntary, and that you are the best judge as to whether you are adequately prepared. This is especially true for the PT test. Please be well-conditioned for this exam. You, and you alone bear all responsibility for any injuries that you may incur when you take the PT test. You can easily test yourself and know where you stand (all you need is a stop watch). Please do not come unprepared for the PT test. You should have taken your PT test 3 times within two weeks by yourself before taking it with us. Many people (especially younger officers) greatly overestimate their level of physical fitness. WE DO NOT WANT INJURIES or ACCIDENTS--condition yourself year round!!!
Fort Detrick is located in the city of Frederick. You can reach Frederick by highway, and once in the city, Fort Detrick can be accessed by 7th street from Route 15.
You must arrive at 16:30. Please be on time. If your car is not registered on the Fort, when you drive through the gate you will be stopped and asked to show your driver's license. Please do not enter the Fort without it. The military police have asked people to exit their vehicle and call a tow-truck to remove it from the base (even though its only a 20 yard drive back out the gate). Also, remember that you have left the State of Maryland once you enter the Fort. Please observe all driving regulations and speed limits, as speeding tickets given for 26 mph in a 25 mph zone have happened. If you pass troops in formation the speed limit is 10 mph. You will be told where to report for your exam in your notification. You must tell the guard this location (building number...) He/She WILL ask.
At processing you should be dressed in your Service Dress Uniform. You will be inspected and advised of any last details you need to attend to in order to pass inspection. Your driver's license will be used to verify your age at this time which along with your gender, will be used to determine the specific requirements of your PT test. You will also need to show proof of your uniformed service appointment as well. You will be given a card, please write your name, and age on the card and place it with your gym attire.
The purpose of the inspection is to insure that officers are uniformed properly for the Honor the Colors Ceremony. Since this takes place in front of Army Headquarters on Fort Detrick, we want you to represent our service properly.
You will be evaluated for fit and appearence of uniform, presence of lint, faded shoulder boards or stripes, polished shoes, correct placement of name tags, insignias, badges, hair length, style and general grooming appearance. Please refer to your uniform service manuals for regulations regarding proper uniform wear, appearance, and grooming standards.
All uniformed service personnel are expected to honor the United States Flag. In this ceremony, you are also publicly acknowledging your devotion and committment through service to our country when you present yourself in your uniform using the proper ettiquette expected of uniformed service personnel. You are also representatives of your branch of uniform service, and therefore, the inspection will also ensure a proper presentation to other service personnel who may be observing.
This ceremony is conducted promptly at 17:00. It will be outside (covered area). Participants will form a single line facing the flag. At 17:00 the music will sound, officers will come to attention. When the cannon fires, officers will salute the flag and hold the salute until the flag is lowered, or until the music stops, whichever comes last.
All MSC members must meet the Navy height and weight standards required for the year 2000 and beyond.
After the Honor the colors ceremony, you will be given a place to change into your PT attire, and store your service dress uniform. The PT test will be conducted outside in an official designated area for the Army PFT. It will be conducted on a black asphalt 1/4 mile track. Test types will be grouped together and started at the same time. Navy PRT examinees will be required to perform the toe touch at the begining of their PT test. The PT test begins with push-ups or pull-ups if you are taking the Marine PFT. You will be asked to perform as many push-ups as you can in two minutes. Your upper arm must parallel the ground. You will be scored for good push-ups only. You will be given about a 5-10 minute rest and then will be required to perform as many sit-ups (curl-ups for Navy PRT) as you can in two minutes. For sit-ups, the lower back must touch the ground to count. At inclination the elbows must touch the knees (knees bent at 90 degrees), or the forearms must touch the thighs in the case of curl-ups. The timed run test is the last event which entails a 1.5 mile run for the Navy PRT, a 2 mile run for the Army PFT, and a 3 mile run for the Marine PFT.
Once you've participated in the UCMJ training quiz, if possible, you will be given your score, and entered in our database as a pass or fail. Officers who pass are Military Standard Members and will be publicly announced on the web. Those who did not pass may test again if test slots open. Priority will always be given first to officers who have not tested semiannually. If you passed, your fee will be collected at this time (if applicable).
